NY is first state to tighten gun laws after Newtown
1/15/2013New York is the first state in the nation to tighten its gun laws in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings. The state assembly passed a bill on Tuesday, already approved by the state's governor and the Senate, to further restrict assault weapon ownership, limit magazines to seven rather than 10 bullets and refine mental health laws to make confining potentially dangerous people easier. Governor Cuomo believes that the state’s previous ban on assault weapons had so many loopholes that it was unenforceable. Changes in the law will have no impact on hunters or sport shooters, the governor maintains. [Source]
