New York plotting not-so-sweet jumbo soda ban
5/31/2012Massive soda freaks, New York City is no place for you. The metropolis plans to ban the sale of cups or bottles of soda and sugary drinks larger than 16 fluid ounces at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts. The proposed prohibition of amply-proportioned sugary liquid delights is the latest volley fired by Mayor Bloomberg against the unhealthy habits of his ballooning constituents, more than half of whom are obese or overweight. The ban will not apply to diet sodas, fruit juices, milkshakes or alcoholic beverages, and the thirsty will still be able to buy larger sugary drinks at grocery or convenience stores. If the plan is approved, which is most likely, it could come into effect as early as next March. Get your gulp on!
Do you think banning large, sugary drinks is a positive move?
