New York Times makes truly ridiculous errors on Gore Vidal obit
8/3/2012Gore Vidal died this week at age 86, but the writer, who had long criticized the New York Times, may have had the last laugh on the paper of record. On Wednesday, the Times was forced to issue a paragraph-long, cringe-inducing laundry list of corrections for his obituary that included the potential all-time record for unbelievably egregious obituary corrections: “Mr. Vidal's relationship with his longtime live-in companion, Howard Austen, was also described incorrectly. ... It was not true that they never had sex.” Other errors included this winner: “Although Mr. [Gore] Vidal frequently referred jokingly to Mr. Gore as his cousin, they were not related.” [Source]
