Paper rejects lesbian couple's wedding announcement
7/24/2012Same-sex marriage is illegal in North Dakota, but same-sex wedding announcements? Apparently they are, too -- at least they are at the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead. The newspaper refused to print an announcement for Allison Johnson and Kelsey Smith (who is from Fargo), sending the couple a terse email that said the paper did not print “engagement and wedding announcements for same-sex couples.” The couple -- to be wed on Aug. 1 in New York -- were stunned. Johnson posted the email on her Facebook page, the story went viral, and the newspaper was soon inundated with complaints. On Monday, the paper announced it would review its policy, and today, its editor met with the couple. [Source]
