Sandy Hook first graders worried they would die before Christmas

12/14/2012

Firsthand stories coming out of Sandy Hook elementary pitifully illustrate the youth of the traumatized victims of violence and the efforts of the adults who committed themselves to the children's safety. Teacher Katilin Roig told ABC News she locked her first grade students in the class bathroom with her after hearing nearby gunshots. Heart-wrenchingly, her students worried that they would miss Christmas if they were killed, and Roig was left comforting them while suppressing what must have been her own panic. Roig quoted her students pleading,"'...I don't want to die, I just want to have Christmas.' I said, you're going to have Christmas and Hanukkah…I tried to be positive." [Source]
