Comrades volunteer so Newtown police can spend Christmas with family
12/25/2012Out of tragedy can often come the best in human kindness. As Christmas descends on the battered community of Newtown, Conn. — with its police just 10 days removed from a crime scene that will no doubt haunt them for years — fellow comrades have stepped up to offer some holiday warmth. Throughout Connecticut, police officers in other cities have banded together, volunteering to drive into Newtown so those officers can have Christmas Day off. Many are also donating their overtime pay to shooting-related charities. As word breaks that not a single Newtown officer has to work tomorrow, many are finding out they can go home and see their families. [Source]
