Navy SEAL Team 6 member killed during rescue mission in Afghanistan
12/10/2012A member of the Navy SEAL unit made famous for killing Osama bin Laden in May 2011 was killed over the weekend in a rescue mission in Afghanistan. Petty Officer First Class Nicholas D. Checque, 28, of Monroeville, Pa., was killed while rescuing an American doctor who had been kidnapped by the Taliban. Dr. Dilip Joseph was kidnapped Dec. 5 while returning from a visit to a medical clinic in Afghanistan's Kabul Province. In a statement, President Obama said, "[Checque] gave his life for his fellow Americans … selfless service that allows our nation to stay strong, safe and free." [Source]
