Nine confirmed dead in Tokyo highway tunnel collapse
12/3/2012Nine bodies have been found in the wreckage of a highway tunnel which collapsed in Japan. The bodies were discovered in three vehicles trapped when 150 concrete panels fell from the roof of the Sasago tunnel about 50 miles west of Tokyo. Rescue efforts were initially hampered by smoke from fires caused by the collapse, which affected around 160 yards of the busy 2.7-mile tunnel, trapping around 30 vehicles. Two injuries have been reported, and efforts to rescue survivors and recover victims are continuing as workers attempt to find a path through the wreckage. [Source]
