Autistic teen who needs iPad to talk told to stow it before takeoff
8/15/2012Carly Fleischmann is a 17-year-old writer and advocate for people with autism. Carly herself has a form of autism that leaves her unable to speak so she often uses an iPad to communicate. On Monday, Carly posted a lengthy Facebook message following an incident in which an American Airlines flight attendant asked her to stow her iPad before takeoff. Carly explained why she needed the device, but was told that FAA regulations required her to put it away -- the first time she was asked to do this on a flight, Carly said. She was able to keep her iPad after the captain intervened. [Source]
