Husband dies on way to wife's funeral, so fun-loving family plants two

2/22/2013

You don't often hear "the more, the merrier" at a funeral, but the Hendricksons like to take their reverence with a dose of gentle humor. When their 94-year-old father, Norman, stopped breathing en route to his wife's services in Cambridge N.Y., a son-in-law raced home to get the "do not resuscitate" orders and the family quickly improvised. Mourners were soon greeted by the sign "Surprise it's a doubleheader" and the funeral parlor owner even wrote a "buy one, get one free" joke on the prayer card. "My sister said the only thing he didn't do was fall into the casket," said daughter Norma Howland. She says her parents used to promise never to leave the other behind. She'd thought it was a joke. [Source]
