Inventor of oddly popular electric football toy dies
7/13/2012For boys back in the day who couldn't even fantasize about Madden NFL 13 or any video football, their hero wasn't Jim Brown or Dick Butkus but Norman Sas. They didn’t know him by name, but he was the toymaker who developed electric football—possibly the most exasperating game ever invented, but the only way kids had to re-create the real thing. Sas' death at the age of 87 has been confirmed by family members who seem to grasp that his legacy is a mixed one: the vibrating metal field often jiggled the playing figures around in uncontrollable clumps that resembled a school of fish more than football. "I'm sure there were many of the little guys thrown against the wall," admitted Sas' widow, Irene. [Source]
