Pope will tweet during Lent to reach the 'media-savvy'

22 Feb 2012 23:45:25 GMT

The Vatican's going viral for Lent. For the next 40 days, Pope Benedict will evangelize themes from his 2012 Lenten message on Twitter through the @Pope2UVatican handle, sending out daily tweets designed to "attract a media-savvy generation and entice them to learn more," according to News.va. The Twitter account is an offshoot of the Pope2U website, which also features links to Facebook and iPhone apps and a Vatican YouTube channel. Msgr. Paul Tighe, secretary of the devout-sounding Pontifical Council for Social Communications, refutes critics who think this technological attempt to reach the masses is "dumbing down" the Church. He explains to News.va that "many of the key Gospel ideas are readily rendered in just 140 characters."

As far as I'm concerned, the entire Christian religion is wrong. I love God and I love Jesus, and I percieve Christians as the enemy of Christ. In Revelations, the only people God unleashes plagues upon or has killed are Christians in the 7 Churches for their failure to repent for their sins against Him. If JFK was the center of religion, would you glorify him by re-enacting his assassination and hanging ornate murals showing his brains getting blown out?  If I was God or Jesus, I would be offended. Satan is the Liar and Deceiver of Nations (rev. 12:9) and slanders the Lord day and night. There is no greater lie told throughout the world for 2000 years than, "Jesus died for our sins." Name another.
The Church is the lie and slander. I don't care who God loves more. I'll choose to stay out of the barrels that he shoots his fish in, thanks. \m/

Yes, the holy father the Pope will evangelize via twitter. No condemnation! the atheists and other faith members (non-Christians) may be willing to listen...(at least to know whether he, the pope, will quote them within or out of context). There is no judgement by man, THERE HAVE BEEN SINNERS FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD, EVEN AMONG THE 12 APOSTLES.... The popes from the birth of christianity have been the head of the church, no doubt! Have any one of those antagonists of the pope and  catholic church ever asked why there are people of other religions...non-christians? If I should find it difficult to be a catholic - (the faith or body through which I received and believed in the Bible) I should also find it more difficult to be a christian, and if I should find it more difficult to be a christian, then, it should equally be very difficult for me to be a member other non christian religion (despite all their good teachings and practices), and if this should be so, the next convincing and comfortable state is ATHEISM...IF you are in doubt of your catholic faith, consider it. MAYBE, I SHOULD OPT FOR ATHEISM BECAUSE DOUBT OF CATHOLICISM IS DOUBT OF THE BIBLE ITSELF WHICH IT HAS TRANSFERRED TO ME OVER THE AGES....DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS, YOU BETTER DO!!!

I'm not even Catholic (I'm Lutheran), but I wanted to say that I don't see anything wrong with using the internet to reach a larger audience who may not hear those things otherwise. This is the world we live in today, and instead of fighting it I think we should embrace it's power to spread good messages about God/Jesus. As far as "dumbing it down", what's wrong with trying to make it easier and simpler for the young people to understand? I have a lot of friends (I'm college age) who don't even know what the simplest terms mean (like baptism and communion) that those of us who have gone to church throughout our lives are very familiar with. The very concept of school is learning basic things and gradually adding in more information to form complex knowledge. I don't agree with many things that the Catholic church is done but this one I can support.

s gchess.....SURE! "Wrong doings are everywhere." Don't we all know that? The question here is WHEN IS ENOUGH - ENOUGH? Exactly, how have they made it any right? They forbid they're priests to marry because they decide that is correct? Where in the holy scriptures does it even say that should be so? Look at what they're doing in Mexico, they want to implement a law throughout the country that will obligate everyone to do as they say. Is that holy to you? I know that you think you're in the right path but sadly you're on the wrong path. I understand that being Catholic is more convenient for any liberal lifestyle but the question we should ask ourselves is "Am I really going to obtain eternal salvation in the path I am currently on?" Question everything and then question the answers. God bless you as well.

It's amazing to hear so much wrong information about the bible and Catholic Tradition.
No foundation for POPE, BISHOPS ...?
Yes. There are more than enough evidence in the bible. Open up Mt. 16:13-20.
You will find that Jesus said he will build his church on the rock(meaning Peter, don't argue about petros-petra ...It means Peter period.). And gave a key (meaning power to control, also open up Isah 22:20-23 where you will find the meaning of the key.) to Peter who is the first Pope period.

In regard birth control pill and other contraceptive methods, you as a human being, there is a intrinsically recognized rules and regulations, you may called it "Natural Law" which is given as eternal law through God (or whatever you want to say if you don't believe god.) which clearly indicates that man has basic instinct to have a child which is a gift as a result of marriage with its unitive and procreative  meaning.

It's quite alright to argue with others, but you need to have right reasons for the honest discussion. Try not to blame others, try to love them. You life will be happier!

there are alot of people that put down the catholic church for wrong doings. but do they stop and think of other churches baptists,etc... wrong doings are in all churches.  you just dont see it in the news.  Its how you keep your faith in God.  wrong doings are everywhere.   Catholic's do teach 10 comandments and do teach the bible.  i may not know all the bible but my FAITH is strong, what you say or comment will never change my faith.  God Bless you and your families.

The Lord would never tolerate any type of abuse. WAKE UP!! How many more defenseless children have to get molested so that you will wake up! The pope is nothing but the speaker for the Catholic church. He doesn't represent holiness in any way. When someone is truly from God they are 100% transparent! How much has the catholic church paid out because of all the abuse? Now they're even bankrupt because they're trying to cover up all their dirty public secrets.
