Back in the day, US planned to nuke the world if pres was killed

12/12/2012

Up until 1968, the United States had a plan on what to do if the president was killed or disappeared during an attack on the country, and it was a calm, measured response. (Just kidding.) It basically amounted to "Nuke the World!" According to newly declassified documents, the U.S. policy was to launch a "full nuclear response" against both the Soviet Union and China, even if the attack had used conventional weapons and regardless of whether or not either of those two nations initiated the attack. President Lyndon Johnson changed the policy after members of his cabinet advised that the policy was "dangerous." [Source]
