NY town means business when it says 'mow your lawn'6/13/2012
Is it just us, or does a $10,000 fine and jail time for failing to mow your lawn seem a little steep? The Long Island, N.Y., village of Massapequa Park is instituting penalties for people who don't maintain their property, a problem that has apparently grown thanks to a rise in foreclosures. The village board voted unanimously Monday to institute a stepped system whereby property owners face a $250 to $1,000 fine for a first property-maintenance offense, $2,500 and a jail sentence of up to 10 days for a second offense, and $10,000 and 15 days in the clink for a third. That's a lot of green for neglecting your green.
Do these penalties sound fair or fairly excessive to you?
