NYC mayor wants to shame drivers into slowing down
6/25/2012As a punishment, shame works pretty good on 6-year-olds and not so much for the rest of us. And in New York City? Forget about it. Nonetheless, Mayor Michael Bloomberg thinks that's the only recourse now that the state legislature has shot down his notion of fining speeders caught on camera. "We'll put up their names and pictures someplace, maybe we can shame them," he huffed. "We should look at that." While he's at it, why not a pillory for jaywalking pedestrians? If he'd been following recent developments, Hizzoner would know that paying drivers not to speed works better -- except the city would need the fine money from those speeding cameras to pay for it.
Could you be shamed into not speeding?
