Man says statue of Obama with watermelon is a joke, so it's not racist
12/28/2012Dan Hafley of Casey County, Ky., would like to inform people that even though he has a mannequin of President Obama in his front yard holding a slice of watermelon, he is not racist. Hafley insists that his display is a joke all in good fun, and anyway, "The way I look at it, it's freedom of speech. I don't know how other people will take it." When asked about the watermelon, Hafley insists it's there because the figure "might get hungry standing out here." Despite Hafley's claim, neighbors are not pleased. They argue this display resembles one of the most widely known racial stereotypes against blacks and insist it's possible people could be offended by the display.
