Obama opponents say laid-off guy in campaign ad had a job
5/11/2012A campaign ad for Obama's reelection is being attacked by opponents who have accused the autoworker it features of lying about his employment status. The ad introduces real-life Toledo auto-parts factory worker Brian Slagle, who says he was terrified after being laid off from his job, with a wife and newborn to support, but was saved by the president's 2009 auto bailout. However, The Weekly Standard, a conservative magazine and blog, points to Slagle's Facebook page which says he has been employed with Johnson Controls since February 2006. It is unclear whether the autoworker indeed lied about being laid off or simply failed to update his profile. Either way, the vitriol is flowing.
