Is there a mercy rule? Obama gets 19,605 votes to Mitt's 0 in Philly
11/13/2012President Obama might be a basketball fan, but he pitched a shutout in some of Philadelphia's voting corridors. In 59 of the city's divisions, the final tally was 19,605 for Obama, 0 (yes, that's a zero) for Mitt Romney. Those ward subsets, which make up 3.5 percent of Philadelphia's 1,687 divisions, are in predominantly African-American parts of the city, where registered Republicans are almost as hard to find as a Romney/Ryan sticker. "We have always had dense urban corridors that are extremely Democratic," political science professor Jonathan Rodden says. "You are looking at the extreme end of it in Philadelphia." It happened in 2008, too: In 57 divisions, not one vote was cast for John McCain. [Source]
