President Obama cries during press conference on Sandy Hook shootings
12/14/2012A visibly emotional President Obama wiped away tears during a press conference today, mourning the deaths at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. "I know there's not a parent in America who doesn't share the same overwhelming grief that I do," said Obama, pausing to collect himself. "[The slain children] had their entire lives ahead of them: birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own." Obama reeled off the sites of five recent mass gun tragedies — "an elementary school in Newtown, a shopping mall in Oregon, a temple in Wisconsin, a movie theater in Aurora, a street corner in Chicago" — and promised "meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of politics."
