Obama speaks at Newtown vigil: 'We can't tolerate this'
12/17/2012After a unified message of love and comfort from many religious leaders at Newtown's Interfaith Vigil, President Obama's speech became nothing less than a call to the entire country. "We can't tolerate this anymore," he said. "These tragedies must end, and to end them we must change." The president further promised, "In the coming weeks I'll use whatever power this office holds in an effort aimed at preventing more tragedies like this, because what choice do we have? We can't accept events like this as routine." As much comfort as this unifying call provided, the inconsolable sobs that came from the audience when he read the name of each victim was a harrowing reminder of what this community is enduring, and how long it will take to heal.
