Obama to bring 34,000 troops home from Afghanistan, says source

2/12/2013

President Obama's State of the Union address will announce that 34,000 U.S. troops will return from Afghanistan one year from Tuesday, according to a source familiar with the speech's contents. That represents about half of the U.S. troops currently deployed in Afghanistan. The decision marks the next phase in Obama's plans to end the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan by the end of 2014. The person who provided the information did so on condition of anonymity to discuss the drawdown before the president's announcement. [Source]
