Americans, fat now, will be humongous in 2030, report says

9/18/2012

If you think Americans are fat now, wait till you see what we'll look like in 18 years. A new report, charmingly called "F as in Fat," projects that, though an alarming number of U.S. adults (35.7 percent) and children (16.9 percent) are obese now, by 2030, fully half of U.S. adults (and in 13 states, as many as 60 percent) will be, resulting in skyrocketing health care costs. But don't surrender hope and drown your despair in fried foods and sugary sodas. The authors of the report, by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, say a "concerted effort" to embrace healthier habits can halt their dire predictions.
