No snark: if someone is going to get 15 minutes of fame in this business, I am thrilled that it's Marilyn Hagerty. #longwarmbreadsticks
"Some people don't like it, some people do like it, blah blah blah." --Marilyn Hagerty, giving the world the only response it deserves.
I'd rather read Marilyn Hagerty's review of the Grand Forks Olive Garden than the media gushing over the Next El Bulli menu. She rocks!
Olive Garden critic who went viral tells haters to 'get a life'
3/9/2012Marilyn Hagerty has written the "Eatbeat" column for the Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald for more than 30 years, but one recent column made her an Internet sensation: a review of the town's new Olive Garden. The article garnered thousands of comments, plenty of which were snide remarks about reviewing a chain restaurant, but Hagerty is no small-town rube -- she's an astute, no-nonsense newspaper lifer who understands her audience. Hagerty told the Village Voice she didn't understand all the attention. In a city of 55,000, fine dining options are limited, and the Olive Garden was "one of the biggest deals in ages." As for the haters? "If anyone's got time to sit out there and nitpick, I kind of feel sorry for them. Get a life."
