Olympic ceremony outfits set a world record for ugliness

6/2/2012

You have to admire the intention, if perhaps not the end result, of the London 2012 Olympics decision to leave the design of the "Victory Ceremonies ceremonial costumes" to students, even if they are studying at the highly prestigious Royal College of Art. The plum-colored results look like something swiped from a 1962 movie about flight attendants of the future -- or rejected outfits for Epcot Center guides. London 2012 reps say the student designers were "inspired by Greek mythology as well as British heritage," but despite the high-culture references, they haven't met with critical acclaim. As Jezebel put it, the uniforms "look like they were designed for a Project Runway challenge that was met by a Michael Kors' stinkface."
