Olympic shooter will go to the firing line 8 months pregnant
4/14/2012There's going to be a tandem shooting event at the upcoming London Olympics -- and not with dueling pistols. Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi of Malaysia has been given the OK to compete in 10-meter air rifle by her country -- and her obstetrician. She'll be eight months pregnant when the first shot at the games is fired, which has some family members and others questioning the wisdom of her decision, especially when some studies have warned about noise being a hazard to the fetus. She is making a few concessions though: For instance, she won't shoot in the 50-meter event despite having qualified. "I cannot do prone position with this big stomach," she laughed. So if she wins, will they award two gold medals?
Should she be allowed to compete?
