Jokey 9/11 imagery in Onion video misses the mark with readers

8/5/2012

It was a three-second throwaway on a Week-in-Review video, but satirical newspaper The Onion never lets any opportunity for a joke pass by — even when it should. With a digitally altered photo painfully rife with 9/11 imagery, the gag-rag declared "Sears extremists fly a plane into the Willis Tower." The pushback was immediate and intense, with comments on The Onion's Facebook site pushing 4,000. Marketing director Grant Jones was equally sarcastic in his response, writing that "perhaps you didn't see the news that humor died after 9/11." Facebook user David Zak had a different take: "I am not offended at all! It just ain't funny…you can do better onion." [Source]
