Paul McCartney was paid only $1.56 for Olympics show

7/31/2012

Paul McCartney couldn't possibly be short on cash -- but we still took note of the fact that he was only paid £1 for his two-song set at the London Olympics' opening ceremony. (That's about $1.56, if you're counting.) The event's other acts -- including Dizzee Rascal and Arctic Monkeys -- took equal payouts. Of course, there are plenty of  benefits to appearing in the show, with several performers popping up on the singles charts, including Arctic Monkeys and their cover of the Beatles' "Come Together." Before anyone starts thinking that such a deal is unique to British performers celebrating a national landmark, American artists routinely make a worse deal to play the halftime show at the Super Bowl -- for her extravaganza this year, Madonna was paid exactly nothing.
