Orangutan shot more than 100 times makes miraculous recovery

10/27/2012

An Indonesian orangutan is making a miraculous recovery after she was shot more than 100 times with an air rifle (pictured is a file photo of a different animal in a zoo). Officials found the orangutan on Borneo with more than 37 pellets lodged in her head alone and didn't expect her to pull through. But the conservationists named her Aan and report that while she has lost one eye and some of her hearing, they hope she'll one day be able to be released back into the wild. It isn't known who shot Aan, but officials say the animals have been involved in shootings over the last year on oil palm plantations; operators view the animals as pests. [Source]
