Academy Award nominees announced with no surprises (well, maybe one)
1/10/2013The nominees for the 85th Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning (see full list below) and — in a big reveal that surprised exactly zero people — "Lincoln" led the annual popularity contest with 12 nominations in almost all of the major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director and both Best Supporting Actor and Actress. (Somewhere in an undisclosed Los Angeles location, Daniel Day-Lewis' name is already being engraved on the Best Actor statuette.) Nine flicks were nominated for Best Picture, including "Django Unchained," "Les Miserables" and "Silver Linings Playbook." The Best Actress category had one surprising name wedged between Jennifer Lawrence and Naomi Watts: "Beasts of the Southern Wild" star Quvenzhané Wallis, who at 9 years old is the youngest Best Actress nominee ever.
