Paralympian accused of killing GF was in Nike ad with unfortunate name
2/14/2013In 2011, Nike presented Oscar Pistorius as "The Bullet in the Chamber," an ad campaign that now seems spectacularly awful. That ad, featuring an action sequence of the crouched and sprinting Paralympian, has been removed from his website. He was also featured in an earlier Nike ad called "Weapon," which featured other South African athletes, along with a voice-over that said "My body is my weapon … this is how I fight." Pistorius was charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot four times Thursday morning. "It might be time to rethink our casual use of armed violence as sports analogy, simile and metaphor," Tom Ziller of SB Nation wrote. [Source]
