Brandi Glanville kicked off the red carpet by barely covering up her nipples — in a dress she reportedly boasted/admitted was her own creation. (We're sure that's true, as long as the production process involved throwing up her hands halfway through sewing the bodice and saying, "Screw it, I'm finished.)
With soft curls and super-saturated red lips, Jessica Chastain went for "Old Hollywood" glamour on the Oscars red carpet. Chastain's strapless Armani gown shimmered in the L.A. sun — and skimmed her body from the form-fitting bodice to the carpet. What's outrageous to us is that she didn't go more avant garde; it's what we would hope from her.
Samantha Barks might have played the put-upon Eponine in a series of raincoats and rags in "Les Miserables," but the English actress made sure the world knows she's actually a knockout on the Oscars red carpet, wearing a sleek black Valentino dress that might look staid — if it weren't for a plummeting neckline cut to the approximate depth of her navel. Eponine's got boobs, y'all.
Partners-in-crime (and movies, and life) Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton did what they do best on the Oscars red carpet: look like they just walked into the wrong party. As usual, Bonham Carter's red-carpet look was "goth bedhead": all the messy hair, pale skin and black layers (courtesy of Vivienne Westwood) that Bellatrix Lestrange could possibly want. As for Burton — director of "Frankenweenie" and "Beetlejuice" — he color-coordinated his black arm sling with his tux. Natch.
As Twitter asked, in unison, if Anne Hathaway was cold, it was unclear whether what we were seeing was an actual nipple issue or just a problem with some finicky seams on Hathaway's pale-pink Prada dress.
Whether you loved it or hated it — and opinion was divided — Nicole Kidman's dress definitely got people talking. Some adored the sleek lines and overall sparkle factor; haters compared her, variously, to a glittery fish and to an especially shimmering rug. There was remarkably more consensus on her half-up, half-down hair — but unfortunately for Kidman, observers seemed to agree that it was a little too devil-may-care.
Most guys arriving were, can we say it, meh? But then came Samuel L. Jackson, who showed up in a red velvet tux. Why? Because he's Samuel L. Jackson, and he can do whatever he wants. No one could compete — whether an evolving hottie like Eddie Redmayne or an old pro like Daniel Day-Lewis.

Credit where credit's due: Glanville might not win any actual awards tonight — except the one from lonely, lonely dudes watching at home — but her dress is the shocking debut to what we can only hope will continue to be an unbelievably outrageous red carpet.
