Quit calling them the Academy Awards (unless you want to sound musty)2/20/2013
Quiz: Name the big movie awards being held this Sunday. If you answered "the 85th Academy Awards," you gain points for being technically correct but lose them for being deeply uncool. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has quietly dropped "Academy Awards" and the number 85 from most of its official materials in recent weeks. An Academy spokeswoman said it's merely a "typical adjustment" (because it's completely typical to change the name of your show), although Neil Meron, who's co-producing the Oscars show, admitted both phrases keep it "mired somewhat in a musty way." It's probably just coincidence that "Oscars" also has far fewer characters than "Academy Awards" — making it a lot more Twitter-friendly. [Source]
