Did you hear? The Academy Awards theater is now called The Dolby Theater. You didn't hear? Probably not listening in Dolby. Tsk tsk

Oscars to have kick-ass sound in renamed Dolby Theatre

5/2/2012

Remember how during this year's Oscars, Billy Crystal redubbed the award show's longtime home, the Kodak Theatre, the "Chapter 11 Theater" and the "Your Name Here Theater" in light of Kodak's bankruptcy filing? Funny, yes, and now also true. The iconic Academy Awards theater will henceforth be known as the Dolby Theatre, and the awards will remain there at least for the next 20 years, thanks to a just-announced deal with Dolby Laboratories. The audio company, which will upgrade the theater's sound system, reportedly paid top dollar for the naming rights. On Twitter, one jokester worried about the implications: "Does that mean audiences can boo but not hiss?"
