Oxford University to let men wear skirts on exam days

7/29/2012

Oxford University is traditionally thought of as a place of stuffy suits and briefcases. But those days appear be changing -- new rules going into effect will allow men to wear skirts with pantyhose and women to dress in bow ties on exam days. The abolishment of gender-specific academic clothing will be relevant on occasions when students are required to wear dark clothes known as "subfusc." The adjustments are part of an effort to be inclusive of Oxford's transgender students, who previously had to seek special dispensation from university proctors if they wanted to wear subfusc of the opposite sex.
