Paramount sues to stop new book in ‘Godfather’ series
2/22/2012"The Godfather" is one of the few film adaptations in which it's unequivocal that the film version is superior to the literary one. While Mario Puzo's novel is an entertaining piece of pulp, the first two films are seminal works from the most creative, groundbreaking period in American filmmaking. That is apparently why Paramount has sued Puzo's estate to prevent publication of more "Godfather" novels. The studio claims it has exclusive rights to make any dramatic or literary works from the title, and that it wants to stop the Puzo estate from publishing any works that would "tarnish" the series' legacy.
