Paul Ryan fudges some facts on Carter-Obama comparisons
9/4/2012Paul Ryan made a campaign stop in North Carolina Monday afternoon, where the GOP veep nominee unfavorably compared President Barack Obama to Jimmy Carter, saying the “Jimmy Carter years look like the good old days compared to where we are now.” Is he right? Yes and no. His dig about Obama and Carter’s unemployment numbers is accurate, but under Republican presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush unemployment rates were higher or level with the Democratic presidents. Ryan also misstated the number of business bankruptcies under the Dems, combining both business and personal bankruptcy numbers into one figure. Bankruptcies were actually higher under Reagan and both Bushes. (Source)
