These guns are getting a second chance at life as musical instruments instead of instruments of death. Artist Pedro Reyes created these gadgets for project "Imagine" using a haul of 6,700 weapons broken down into harmless parts. The guns were either turned in or seized by authorities in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, a city known for its violent murders. "It's important to consider that many lives were taken with these weapons," explains Reyes. "As if a sort of exorcism was taking place, the music expelled the demons they held [and is also a] requiem for lives lost." These repurposed killing machines now make beautiful music as gritty drum sets, wicked bass guitars and more. [Source]
