Pentagon gives gay couples more (but not all) military benefits

2/12/2013

If you're one half of a same-sex couple and you or your partner is serving in the military, there are some extra benefits coming your way. Outgoing secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta has signed an order expanding military benefits for gay couples and their dependents. The extra perks include access to family-oriented facilities and services on U.S. military bases, and pay if their partner is taken prisoner or goes MIA. But the benefits still fall far short of those offered to heterosexual couples: Same-sex couples are still barred from equal access to base housing, healthcare and educational services. [Source]
