People feel sorry for the teen jailed after missing school
5/30/2012Texas high school student Diane Tran is having one stressful week. She's the junior from Houston who was recently fined $100 and sentenced to 24 hours in jail for missing too much school. Though in her defense, Tran claims her truancy is the result of being exhausted from going to class AND working two jobs to support her siblings. Now, an online petition has been started that seeks to get Tran's fine and sentence overturned. The petition says teachers or other authority figures should have reached out to help Tran and sought to reward her "fighting spirit," rather than let a judge punish her with a criminal record. Supporters are seeking 200,000 signatures and already have more than 160,000.
