Hurricane Sandy is a Democrat, figures find

10/30/2012

As Hurricane Sandy beats down on the eastern U.S., does it have a little democratic donkey logo on it? An analysis of Federal Election Commission numbers has found that people named Sandy are far more likely to have donated money to President Obama than to Mitt Romney or other GOP candidates. A whopping 73 percent of the 353 Sandys who gave at least $200 this election cycle directed it at the incumbent. Even weirder, people with other hurricane monikers show similar Democratic tendencies: people named Irene and Katrina gave 80 percent to Obama while older storms like Rita, Frances and Andrew yielded 69, 70 and 54 percent of Obama donations, respectively. That said, don't start associating all bad weather with Democrats: next year's Tropical Storm Van will be a Republican, the figures suggest. [Source]
