Epic Perseid meteor showers are expected this weekend

8/10/2012

Get out your sleeping mats and best stargazing' eyes — the Perseids are here! The celestial event, which happens annually around August when Earth passes through a stream of comet debris, calls sky-lovers forward for some of the prettiest meteor showers around. For the best viewing, get yourself to a dark spot in the Northern Hemisphere, and, as long as the clouds stay away, you're all but guaranteed a feast of shooting stars. The show will run from Aug. 11 through 14; the best viewing hours are between midnight and 3 a.m., and meteor activity is expected to peak on Aug. 12. Don’t forget the hot cocoa! [Source]
