Good luck finding Pete Rose's name on Topps baseball cards these days

2/14/2013

Pete Rose has been banned from baseball and, permanently, from its hallowed Hall of Fame for his game-betting antics. Now the all-time hits leader is being banished from baseball history on baseball cards. Topps, which long ago ceased to produce Rose cards, has now erased his name from its card stats altogether, leaving his record to stand and making the man who achieved it disappear. Adding to the insult, Topps continues to credit suspected performance-enhancing-drug users like Barry Bonds with their own records. Sportswriter Rob Harris is aghast. "Baseball cards are not supposed to pass judgment," he writes. "They should tell us who played the game and how they played it. Plain and simple." [Source]
