Petraeus always believed al-Qaida was behind Benghazi, U.S. rep says

11/16/2012

Former CIA Director David Petraeus testified this morning that his agency immediately believed the Sept. 11 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was coordinated by al-Qaida, but that that information was taken out of talking-points documents sent to administration officials, according to Rep. Peter King (R-NY). Petraeus supposedly made the statement during a closed-door hearing before Congress; if true, it would contradict the White House's initial statement that the attack was spontaneous and the result of anger over an anti-Islamic video. King spoke to reporters after the hearing and said Petraeus asserted his agency's belief that "this was a terrorist attack" right from the start. [Source]
