Boy wearing 'gang' number forced to ditch his Peyton Manning jersey

9/6/2012

Sorry, Colorado kids. Those spanking-new Peyton Manning jerseys you bought over the summer aren't welcome in some of your classrooms. When 8-year-old Konnor Vanatta wore his new No. 18 Denver Broncos jersey to school, administrators made him take it off. It's not because the Weld County School District is stocked with Oakland Raiders fans — the truth is even more ridiculous. The district says that the number 18 represents "gang culture" and is banned from any article of clothing worn to school, even when donned by a third-grader who's obviously just cheering for his hometown team. "I think [schools] need to start paying attention to the education the children are getting rather than what they're wearing," mom Pam Vanatta says. [Source]
