Dog stranded on ice floe off Chicago rescued by kayaker
2/25/2013He's been through an ordeal, but it looks like Pifas, a tolling retriever rescued from a Lake Michigan ice floe a half-mile off Chicago, is going to be OK. That's thanks to a major rescue on Friday that included a helicopter, a fire boat and a heroic kayaker who, after spotting the stranded pooch, suited up and paddled out to him. "I just kept encouraging him," kayaker Dave Kehnast said. "He wanted to bite me! So I kind of just kept on him" until the dog swam to shore, he explains. Animal control officials took the dog in and reunited him with his owner, who said Pifas had "never done anything like this before." Hope he never does it again. [Source]
