Pink-shirted Brooklyn hipsters insist they're profiled
3/26/2012The NYPD is on a mission to take down all hipsters in Williamsburg -- say the hipsters in Williamsburg. Young white men in the 90th Precinct (fifth on the New York Civil Liberties Union's top 10 list for most police stop-and-frisks) whine that they're detained as much as their black and Latino neighbors. Top targets include "poor artists and aggressive bike messengers," as well as unfortunates in bright colors: One barbershop manager claims he was an "easy target" because of his bright pink shirt. Christopher Dunn, the NYCLU's associate legal director, shrugs off the hipster grumbling, "They are getting a taste of the senseless and unjustified stops that blacks and Latinos across the city experience every day."
