'Pink slime' maker blames the media for bankruptcy
4/2/2012It could be a small victory for those opposed to "pink slime." One of the largest manufacturers of the highly debated meat filler is filing for bankruptcy protection, saying the media coverage by critics is to blame. AFA Foods filed for protection Monday. Other companies have since halted production of the filler as grocery stores started pulling it from shelves. Just last week, three governors, including Texas Gov. Rick Perry, went on tour of a similar company's plant and bit into burgers made with the product in an effort to show consumers and grocers that the product was safe to eat.
