Philly cops use Pinterest in their hunt for wanted crooks
11/20/2012Pinterest is finally useful for more than just pictures of food. The Philadelphia Police Department has started its own page on the social media site to display mugshots and CCTV images of wanted criminals. People can peruse the rogues' gallery and leave tips to help nail the pinned perps. Philly was inspired by the small Pennsylvania borough of Pottstown, which tried the technique and saw arrests in Pinterest-aided cases spike by 58 percent. Cops are hoping that two very different Philly communities – the criminal underworld and social media netizens – can overlap just enough to make a difference in their fight against crime. [Source]
