Lead-filled pirate costume is this Halloween's scariest look
10/17/2012Think twice before you dress up your little girl as an adorable buccaneer. Federal inspectors have seized nearly 1,400 Chinese-made pirate costumes containing 11 times the legal limit for lead, which was found in the outfits' trim and buttons. Putting a lead button in your mouth can make you sicker than even the most over-the-top Halloween candy binge, so thank officials for finding the costumes before they arrived in Seattle. Mike Milne, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said the shipper was targeted because of past violations. The costumes, worth around $10,000, will be destroyed. [Source]
