Police reportedly fire 20 shots at huge shark after it kills NZ man

A 14-ft shark, believed to be a great white, has killed a man swimming off a beach near Auckland, New Zealand. Seeing the huge shark attack the man, witnesses called for help and emergency services rushed to the scene. A police officer fired from an inflatable rescue boat at the shark, which had been joined by another, as lifeguards tried to recover the man's body. One witness reported about 20 shots being fired. Inspector Shawn Rutene confirmed a police officer fired at the shark responsible for the man's death: "We don't know whether he hit it, but it rolled off and disappeared." [Source]
